Morning Routine(ish)

Hey y’all! For as far as I can remember, I’ve been a morning person. I love the smell of coffee (and the taste of course), sunlight peeking through the window, my son saying “mornin’!!” and the thought of a new day/fresh start. Now, I’m not saying I get up chipper every single day and smile because I have to get out of bed while my son wakes up scream crying at me to change him and get him his “juice”/breakfast, but if I have a routine, it sets for a good day. Routine is the most important for us. It was important before we had our son and now that we have him, it is even more vital. If he knows what is ahead of him (for the most part) in his day when he wakes up, it sets him up for success and his full potential to learn for the day because he feels comfortable and confident. Just think of your job. You don’t feel nervous every single day because you are comfortable and used to the way things go and run your day. You know what to expect and what lies ahead of you for your day. There might be some surprises throughout the day or differences than the day before, but for the most part, it’s the same routine. You are in charge of your routine. So, if you need coffee in your routine to function (guilty🙋🏻‍♀️), than make sure you are set up for success to grab/make your coffee every morning. My husband and I both are avid coffee drinkers and by that I mean he takes his own jug to work and has a coffee pot in his office for back up. We make coffee by the pot (old fashioned way), fill up a pitcher/jug and put it in the fridge. We both prefer cold/iced coffee (this is my fault, I got him hooked) so it’s so much easier. I put a splash of milk and a packet of sweetener in mine and he puts a splash of his milk in his and it’s good to go. WAY easier and cheaper than the Keurig because honestly it couldn’t keep up with our demand for coffee.

Anyways, now that I’ve rambled on about coffee (speaking of I could use a cup), let me get back to our morning routine.

I set my alarm to wake my son and I up for the day. Btw, my son’s name is Tommy and he is 21 months old. Tommy will sleep in until 8-9 but if I let him sleep that late, our nighttime routine is hectic because he gets cranky and won’t go to bed until late and that leaves my husband and I no time to relax any before the next day. My alarm is usually set to 0715 so we get up by 0730 if it’s a slow start. After we are up, we change, brush teeth, wash our face, and up for the day. I usually make Tommy a couple scrambled eggs, fruit, and toast/waffle/or muffin and set him at his Mickey table so I can get my workout done in peace(kind of). I am currently doing a workout program on Beachbody on demand, so I get my water filled and put that on. It’s called Morning Meltdown 100 and each workout is only 20-30 minutes that I can do in the comfort of my home, so it’s fanfreakintastic and super convenient. Really, the only way I’d workout. 🤣 Tommy stays in his seat most of the time eating his breakfast, but if he does join me, he likes to copy what I’m doing and it’s super adorable, so I just make sure I don’t run him over or bump into him and let him. Let them be little and move! That’s a whole different post but little ones need to move! They need to be able to stretch and run and play as much as possible. He is also used to my workout routine so he likes to help get my mat and dumbbells out and put away too! He LOVES to help.

When that is over, I make me breakfast. I have come to LOVE breakfast. I usually make oatmeal, boiled eggs, and cut up an apple(because energy!). Y’all, there is no way I can start my day without breakfast because it really does give me the most energy I am going to get for my day. I love apples because you get as much energy from an apple as one cup of coffee…..I’m pretty sure…. or at least something close like that. 🤷🏻‍♀️ If I’m feeling spontaneous, I’ll make waffles in the waffle maker(easy!), or pancakes on the flat top and fruit. I eat my waffles with honey and peanut butter and Tommy is starting to love those toppings too. If I’m out of boiled eggs, I usually put them in the InstaPot while I work out, that way it’s ready and cooled off when I’m done working out and starving for breakfast. Y’all, I’m all about the easier way! Especially having a little one. Tommy eats his breakfast and then mine too EVERY. SINGLE. TIME! They didn’t prepare me for this whole sharing my food with my child thing. I love food and don’t usually share, but I guess for him I will!🤪

After all that, Tommy and I start our day with crafts/walk the dogs/play outside activities. My son LOVES the outdoors (like his daddy!).

We pretty much start out with the same thing everyday or try to. Like I said earlier, routine is key at least for us! Routine makes for a more confident and comfortable day for everyone. 😌
